Just because...

If you could read my mind love, what a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie, 'bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong, with chains upon my feet.
You know that ghost is me.
And I will never be set free as long as I'm a ghost that you can't see.

If I could read your mind love, what a tale your thoughts could tell.
Just like a paperback novel, the kind the drug stores sell.
Then you reached the part where the heartaches come, the hero would be me.
But heros often fail.
And you won't read that book again because the ending's just too hard to take.

Don't get your panties in a knot, Sal.
It isn't on the blog.
Yet.
*evil laughter*

It's a jolly holiday, with you Bert!

It's official - Laura Michelle Kelly will be playing the lead in Mary Poppins. I wonder how long Chitty will last...

I went to see Rosselli today and got my final and my research paper. She asked me for a copy. *beams* It was pretty good, if I may say so. I could write about pictures for hours. Is there any money in that?
lol

I won Bruno's Christmas cd on ebay and I put a few cds up for sale. First time I've done that. *grimaces* I hope they get some bids.

We had a great time en Espanol today. We played Bingo. *grin* I'm seriously thinking about going down to the Learning Faire and buying a set. It was a lot of fun and I think it would really help with learning vocabulary.

Hasta la vista, chicas!

I'm eating the Cadbury Chunky that Reina gave me and listening to Josh play a Chopin Nocturne.

Another day...

I think the Spanish quiz went quite well. We shall see on Friday.

I ran into Mike this morning. He was in Critical Thinking and Poli Sci with me last semester. We both got B's in Poli Sci. Yay for us.
*grin* He talked to Mrs.Rosselli (Crit Think) and she said that everyone did really good on the final. I need to see if she still has mine. I would like to know what she thought of it.

So, I got a B in Poli Sci and an A in Physics and Critical Thinking.
Thank you, God.

Muchas gracias, Harry!

This, my friends....

The joys of the weekend

Another Saturday is here.
Andrea and I are going to Camilla's Tea House this afternoon. Andrea's birthday is on Wednesday and she is going to be 21 years old. The last time we went to Camilla's was for the Bridesmaids Tea. *sniff* That was in June. How time flies.
I was up in plenty of time, so I decided to curl my hair.
*gasp*
I'm sitting here with a pound of hotsticks on my head. It's an interesting feeling.
*grin*

I'm on a Marc Anthony kick. I forgot how much I like him. His voice is quite unique. Plus, this is great for my Spanish.

Woohooo!!

When the moon hits your eye...

So school wasn't too bad.
It's not that I thought it would be horrible, I just didn't feel like going back. Having a month off and the holidays and all that.....just isn't conducive to academics.
Anywhoo, Bethy and I went to Physics and picked up our labs. I'm going to devise some sort of theatrical way of ridding myself of the pesky things. *evil laughter*

Why is it that so many of the polyphonic ringtone sites are UK based??????

I went to bed at 10:30 last night. It was odd. Maybe that's why I felt so good today. I read somewhere that any hour of sleep before midnight is actually more like two hours of sleep. I think that may be true.
And actually, the freshness of being back in class is nice. Plus the weather was fab today. It was over 60 degrees and sunny. Very nice. Also, the fact that my first class is at 11 has a big effect on my mood. I'm used to my first class being at 8. Those 3 hours make a HUGE difference.

the woe of it all

I've had the worst headache today - the kind that make you feel like you're gonna blow cookies, if you catch my drift. It isn't very pleasant.

School starts tomorrow.
*sob*
I'm not sure why I'm so not wanting that to be.
I just feel like crying over it.
Very curious.
Maybe I'm remembering how things were the last time classes began in August of 2003. That wasn't exactly a great time for me. Andrea was married and gone and Reina was in Holland. I was rather blue, to put it mildly. I didn't talk much for about three or four months.
Anywhoo....that's my sob story.

Bethany, I want to thank you for what you said to me tonight. I really thought you were going to say something about school, that's why I pulled the "I'm ignoring you!!" thing. But thank you.
*hugs Bethany*
I'll see you in *gulp* class tomorrow.

I might have to indulge in some of that lone Cadbury bar that's in my drawer....

Sal took the P&P quiz and she is Mr.Darcy.
No wonder we get along so well.

And I just want to let everyone know that the Marius in the pic is Peter Lockyer.
Peter is the very first Marius that I saw onstage and he is lovely.

Gretchen and I were standing in front of the theatre in San Francisco when we saw La Boheme and I looked up the street and saw Peter walking in our direction. It was really really weird. I was thinking "Ooookay, what is he doing in San Francisco!!??" Then I remember that he was in the show. So I turned to Gretchen and told her who he was and, Gretchen being Gretchen, said "Well go after him!!!" And I was like NO WAY. The man is on his way to work. I'm not going to bother him. And actually, I would have felt odd talking to him right on the street like that. That's something Gretchen would do.
*grin*

So, yay Peter!!!

(No, really.) Some people may see me as a little sanctimonious, but though I care deeply about doing right, I'm not above a little skulduggery in a good cause. Being in touch with my spiritual side doesn't make me an easy target... on the contrary, in fact.

At Crystal - Violin.co.uk

Wow...

FAE
You are blessed with FAERY wings. Beauty,
laughter, life, magic...that's what you are all
about. You are refreshingly innocent and happy
with your life of purity and play. Life's a
game and it's a good one. In your eyes there's
no way to lose! You can be very mischeivous and
have been known to cause trouble, but it's all
in the name of fun and not meant to really harm
anyone. You like to play tricks on people who
aren't quite as bright or clever as you - which
is almost everyone. Nature is the setting you
prefer to be in - Always. Barefoot and wild you
can't be tamed. You're probably a restless
spirit who loves to travel, and quite a
dreamer. Your creativity is astounding and your
art (of whatever media - from writing to
painting to drama) is like something from
another world - ethereal and often very
fantasy-oriented. You can either be a social
butterfly or a loner with their head in the
clouds - but rarely inbetween. You stubbornly
refuse to accept responsibility or to give in
to the wishes of others - unless you feel like
it. You have a strong passion for music and
can't imagine life without it. You'll grow up
someday, but you'll always be a child at heart.
You are adventurous and love to take risks, and
feel a deep connection with the weather,
plants, and animals. You prefer sunshine to
thunder or snow, the warmth of summer to
autumn's chill, and quiet forests to suburban
backyards. Magic through and through, you are
far more powerful than you seem, and are
capable of being extremely passionate. Though
you can be childish, naive, stubborn, and
self-absorbed, one thing is certain - life with
you will never be boring!

Okay, people, I went ahead and took the bull by the horns and re-did the blog.
I was going to change Bob, but then after last Saturday, I couldn't. I couldn't remove Bob after Werther. I just couldn't.
It took me a week to work up the nerve.
*sigh*

So, what do you think?
I've almost used this background image before but it just didn't work out.
I recently came across the Longfellow bit and it seemed to fit well.
There's something about castles and clouds. Castles don't look quite right in the sunshine. This picture gives you the feeling that the weather is verging on a thunderstorm. *heaves heavy satisfactory sigh* That's exactly what a picture of a castle should look like.

Have I mentioned that I really want to go back to England?
It's getting stronger, which is not a good thing. I am in no position to go gallavanting across the pond. I'll have to be satisfied with memories and fiction.
What would really help is to have a wall size picture of Chepstow or Tintern. That would be fab. I wonder how much that would cost. Probably about the same as airfare to go see the real McCoy.
*grin*

I think I need a pot of tea.
That'll cure what ails me. And I'll go back to Jessica and Richard and see what's up. She's in the midst of bossing around the workmen. I forgot about Sir Hamlet and his never ending attempts to turn all of Richard's guards into the wooing experts of the neighborhood.
Three cheers for fiction and time travel.

Ya know, my Joseph cd still hasn't resurfaced. The thing just disappeared.
*sigh*
I have a hankerin to listen to that...

Some folks dream of the wonders they'll do
Before their time on this planet is through
Some just don't have anything planned
They hide their hopes and their heads in the sand
Now I don't say who is wrong, who is right
But if by chance you are here for the night
Then all I need is an hour or two
To tell the tale of a dreamer like you
We all dream a lot
Some are lucky, some are not
But if you think it, want it, dream it, then it's real
You are what you feel
But all that I say can be told another way
In the story of a boy whose dream came true
And he could be you...

Which Peanuts Character Are You?

*swoons into fit of musical delight*

Well, not that I ever had any doubts, but Bob was absolutely splendiferous today. Good heavens, his Werther is stunning. The man is perfect in his imperfection. Signore Pavarotti can go jump off the Eiffel Tower for all I care. Bob is king.

Em came online right before Pourqoui Me Reveiller so she was able to listen till the end.

Let me tell you, Roberto and Pourqoui have now entered the ranks of James and Farewell, Good Angel and Jonathan and Close Every Door.
Good grief, I was in quite a state after that. He held that last note for forever and a day. Yeesh. Absolutely fabulous. I was shaking and had to practically calm myself down. I don't care how much those idiotic "critics" (and I use the term loosely) slam him. People love him. During bows, the announcer referred to the audience "grovelling."
I should think so. Mom laughed at that, but I said "Heh, I probably would have fainted long ago." The place went nuts after Pourqoui and I was laughing and gasping and teetering on the verge of tears. Just like with Jane. *sniff*

I found an interesting article from the NY Times. I picked the relevant parts. *grin*

There are truly great qualities to the singing of the popular tenor Roberto Alagna. Yet from the time he was unhelpfully touted by his recording company in the mid-1990's as "the fourth tenor" until today, he has never rid his singing of some frustrating vocal idiosyncrasies. That was true again on Friday night when Massenet's "Werther," in the Metropolitan Opera's dusty 1971 production, returned to the company with Mr. Alagna in the title role. The evening also offered the alluring mezzo-soprano Vesselina Kasarova as Charlotte and an appealing young Canadian conductor, Jacques Lacombe, in his Met debut. But Mr. Alagna was the main draw.
Mr. Alagna, a dashing stage presence, embodied the role.
Through his ardently sung and impetuous portrayal, Mr. Alagna conveyed the sense that Werther's fatal devotion is more about his own obsessions than Charlotte's desires. He gave a boldly physical performance. Not many tenors during the final scene when the despondent Werther dies of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, could roll off a bed and fall flat onto the floor as Mr. Alagna did.
You must credit this French tenor with a keen understanding of French operatic style. The enunciation of the text and the formation of the vocal sound go hand in hand in the French way. His phrasing was supple and pliant. He captured that slightly nasal vocal quality of the French idiom without turning it into an affectation.
Yet, as on many nights with this proudly self-reliant singer, there were trouble spots in his singing, a result it seemed of technical glitches. Interestingly, he reveled in the full-voiced top notes that would test most tenors. But his mid-range singing was sometimes patchy. His sound would turn leathery; his voice would catch in the throat mid-phrase.
The whole cast received a prolonged ovation, but Mr. Alagna understandably drew the most vociferous bravos. Whatever his technical flaws, he excites audiences and is the real thing: a stylish French tenor.

WELL DUH!!!
At least there is one person who has realized that audiences aren't solely impressed by technical ability. There's another essential ingredient. It's called passion.
Bob practically rips your heart out of your chest. Who cares if his mid-range singing is "patchy." His voice is like no other and I would take him over someone who had all the technical training the world can offer.
So there.

Music and moods

I'm seeing more and more how music affects my moods.
I first began to notice this when I worked at Family. I would get uptight and impatient if I was out on the floor for too long. Then I would go back to my cave and turn on my music and things would get better.
I've also noticed it lately, maybe because the season and the weather have an impact on our brains.
Anywhoo, a good musical experience, whether it be one song or a full opera, can make the world seem a much more bearable place.
There's something to be said for a good money note.
*grin*

Three cheers for technology

I'm listening to Roberto!

Differences are the spice of life

As much as I love my dear Bob, I feel the need for a new blog theme.
Ya see, this is why I should never paint my room. I would want to change it a week later. It's best that I stick with something neutral, like white, and just change the wall decor. Trust me, I have thought about this.
*grin*
So now the question is, what theme do I want?
I like the pink, so it woud be cool if I could leave that. Changing the colors means going into the template and all that jazz and it can be a pain.
I'm thinking about a Dore image, but they are all black and white tones and it's hard to find one that's big enough.
Choices, choices, choices!

    spearmint
    You are Spearmint.
You are quick-witted and sharp. You pay close
attention to details and you can tell what your
friends are feeling. You are always the first
to understand a joke and you are valued for
your insight and advice. However, you
sometimes isolate yourself from other people,
afraid to share your own feelings.

Her - "Smells are funny, aren't they? They're like people."
Me - "Yep. Some are more stinky than others."
Her - "I was thinking more along the line of each are individuals with their own certain something."
    *grin*

    La, but you are breathtaking!

My shopping excursion went very well. I got some cute stuff. I came out of the dressing room and told mother "Don't tell anyone I bought this many clothes at one time!"
I can't have my reputation be slighted, ya know.

Just for the record, the perfume isn't musky or spicy....I suppose it's flowery.

    Perfume and shopping

    I'm warning everyone -
I'm going shopping and I'm actually looking for.....clothes.
    *gasp*
    I know, I know, I'm slipping.
But I really do need some.
    *sigh*

    I'm wearing perfume.
    This is new to me.
    And kind of odd.
I would never have bought it, but Reina gave it to me.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

    Well people, life is interesting.

Yesterday evening Reina and I went over to Tim and Andrea's and stayed the night. We were up till 3 am. We had such a great time. It's nice to get together with friends in an enclosed space and just laugh and talk.
    *sigh*

Reina and I slept on the hidabed and we hadn't been asleep for very long. I hear Reina saying "NO! Get off me!"
Now, being aware that Reina is often vocal in her sleep, I was not alarmed at all. But then when she sat up I thought I better check to see if she was alright.
So I turned over and tapped her on the shoulder and said "Are you okay?"
She was fine and we went back to sleep.
She told me when we got up this morning that she didn't know who I was when I woke up.
    *grin*

We didn't get dressed until 6 this evening.
    What a life.

    Soooo....in other news...

    How about that for timing.
I'm sure if they knew that I, Kathryn the Great, am using him as my blog theme that they would surely give him all the support and contracts that he needs.
