Dishes

I had a lovely dream a few days ago.
A tall dark and handsome singing feriner helped me wash the dishes.
To quote him, "I love to rinse!!"
He was even nice enough to brush my hair and pull it back so it wouldn't get in the way.
*sigh*
My dreams about attractive men involve household chores.
I sometimes think I must be a boring person.

Chocolate

So, since I have been a very good girl, I decided to open the Cadbury stocking.

Woooohoooooo.

Oh people.
It's lovely.
I opened the caramel one and broke off two pieces - one for me and one for mother.
That beautiful smooth sheen, the clean break....ah, lovely.
Then I just sat there and sniffed mine for a while.
Bliss.
I shared this with someone who shall remain nameless and their reply was "You're a sick girl, Gooch."
I said "Well, there's my life in a nutshell."

Goals

Right!
Update on my New Year goals...

The soda thing has been a breeze.
Really.
I basically only drink water and the occassional cuppa.
Also, I've only had fast food a few times.
And I still haven't even opened the Cadbury combo that Brandon got me.
I'm doing very well.
*pats self on back*

I tried to get some dolmas from Oakville Grocery, but they didn't have any.
Sheesh.
What is the world coming to.

I have Friday and Saturday off so I'm going to Landmark Friday night.
Always amusing.

Today I introduced myself to Sis.Price.
I saw them at Walmart.
She seems very nice, maybe a tad shy.
Bro.Price told her (about me) "She's #1. You can't find fault with her."
Later on, I thought Well, I know that isn't true, but that's cool that he thinks it...

Moaning

Bah.
Garrison is going to be in Yountville, but it's on a Wednesday night.
The Dudes are going to be at Davies, but it's on a Sunday night.
Gretchen is in NY, so I can't get together with her on my days off this week.
Having major issues with my UK trip, since someone has changed the dates on me again and it's going to cost more than I had planned.
I hate everyone.
Stinky day.
Later on I'm going to have some tea and one of the marvelously butter-laden pastries that I got from Sweetie Pies.

In other news, I'm wearing mother's gigantic ring that she got in Mexico.
Good grief.
It's like having a rock strapped to your finger.

It's cold.

Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

-George Eliot

Hah!

You Are Likely an Only Child

At your darkest moments, you feel frustrated.
At work and school, you do best when you're organizing.
When you love someone, you tend to worry about them.

In friendship, you are emotional and sympathetic.
Your ideal careers are: radio announcer, finance, teaching, ministry, and management.
You will leave your mark on the world with organizational leadership, maybe as the author of self-help books.

Romy and Julie

I am currently listening to
Image hosted by Photobucket.com.

I'm working on my list of goals for this year.
Gotta learn Je Veux Vivre.
:)

Time flies

I was going through the archives and reading posts about that tortuous Physics Lab...

Bethy, do you remember the little hammer I made out of the clay? And the handcuffs?

Anyways, I've realized that this blog used to be amusing.
Now it just seems witless, boring and depressing.
Sorry, folks.

I Read

I do not read to think. I do not read to learn.
I do not read to search for truth
I know the truth, the truth is hardly what I need.
I read to dream. I read to live. In other people's lives.
I read about the joys, the world
Dispenses to the fortunate,
And listen for the echoes.
I read to live,
To get away from life!
No, captain, I have no illusions.
I recognize the limits of my dreams.
I know how painful dreams can be
Unless you know they're merely dreams.
There is a flower which offers nectar at the top,
Delicious nectar at the top and bitter poison underneath.
The butterfly that stays too long and drinks too deep
Is doomed to die. I read to fly, to skim -
I do not read to swim.
I do not dwell on dreams.
I know how soon a dream becomes an expectation
How can I have expectations?
Look at me.
No, captain, look at me -
Look at me!
I do not hope for what I cannot have!
I do not cling to things I cannot keep!
The more you cling to things, the more you love them,
The more the pain you suffer when they're taken from you ...
Ah, but if you have no expectations,
You can never have a disappointment.

--Stephen Sondheim

Wilde about Chopin

After playing Chopin, I feel as if I had been weeping over sins that I had never committed, and mourning over tragedies that were not my own. Music always seems to me to produce that effect. It creates for one a past of which one has been ignorant, and fills one with a sense of sorrows that have been hidden from one's tears. I can fancy a man who had led a perfectly commonplace life, hearing by chance some curious piece of music, and suddenly discovering that his soul, without his being conscious of it, had passed through terrible experiences, and known fearful joys, or wild romantic loves, or great renunciations.

--Oscar Wilde

Gifts

Brandon got this for me for Christmas.

It's the real kind that's imported. He was listening.

A lady came into work today and I brought out the patriotic cards from the back room for her to look at.
She was looking for a Get Well card for a soldier who is in ICU.
He was with her son.
Her son was killed.

I don't want to eat the chocolate.

Frogs and Princes

Him: I should go before I turn into a pumpkin.
Her: Better a pumpkin than a frog.
Him: If I were a frog, you could kiss me and I would turn into a prince.
Her: You're already a prince.
Him: Well then you could kiss me and I would turn into a frog.
Her: *laughing* I think we just better leave things the way they are.

Hope

Hope Was but a timid friend;
She sat without the grated den,
Watching how my fate would tend,
Even as selfish-hearted men.

She was cruel in her fear;
Through the bars one dreary day,
I looked out to see her there,
And she turned her face away!

Like a false guard, false watch keeping,
Still, in strife, she whispered peace;
She would sing while I was weeping;
If I listened, she would cease.

False she was, and unrelenting;
When my last joys strewed the ground,
Even Sorrow saw, repenting,
Those sad relics scattered round;

Hope, whose whisper would have given
Balm to all my frenzied pain,
Stretched her wings, and soared to heaven,
Went, and ne'er returned again!

I can't stand it when normally irresponsible people suddenly become the Responsible Mafia of the World. It doesn't last, however. They'll go back to their usual MO soon.
Makes me want to hurl.

A cuppa lesson

Alright.
I am about to elaborate on Earl Grey.
You've been warned.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I love Earl Grey.
It isn't actually a type of tea, like green tea, etc.
It's just black tea with bergamot. It's the citrus angle that I like. It's like those neon gummi worms - sweet and sour.

And tea bags.
Tea bags are not evil by definition.
The bigger the leaf, the better the tea.
The problem is that tea bags usually contain the leftovers, the dust, or the "fannings" if you want to get really technical.
By the time the leaves are broken down, all the good stuff is gone from them.
It would be like taking a rose and squeezing all the oils/scent out of it and then handing it to someone. It isn't very impressive. :)
So when you see someone (maybe me *cough*) turn up their nose at tea bags, just think of that squished and scentless rose.
Capice?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

Well, we had a swinging time around here last night....two hours of talking vegetables, pizza, bubbley stuff, Gin (the card game, not the drink) *cough*.
I have never seen Derek so low-key, poor fellow. I said "Did they tranquilize you??"
:)

Bummed that people couldn't come because of weather and previous engagements.
*sigh*

More rain coming today.
Yay.
I can't stand the excitement.

It's so weird not being at church on Sunday. Just feels wrong. I might need to get out some crayons and gluesticks to make myself feel better.

I don't do that whole New Year Resolution thing, but I do have some goals.
Some of these aren't necessarily things that I have never done and some of them are rather silly. :)
I want to:
-Go to Scotland
-Spend the night in a castle
-Eat at least one dolma a month
-Drink less soda
-Attend a recital in which Bach is played ----already have the ticket:)----
-Try a bunch of different shampoos
-Learn Je Veux Vivre
-Learn to knit
-Buy more Chopin and classic Jazz
-Fill up my iPod
-Memorize some Psalms

I might add more to this list in the coming days.
:)

Have a great year, everyone.
Don't take any wooden nickels.
