There are moments when Rolando Villazon sounds scarily like Placido.
Very weird, but maybe that's why I can stand to listen to him.
He has a new cd of Gounod and Massenet arias.
Although they are nice, his "Ah, leve-toi soleil" and Pourquoi are simply not up to The Roberto Bar.
Not as if I had any doubts on that score, but hey, sometimes the obvious needs to be pointed out.

However, I would definitely choose him over most of the tenors of the moment....Licitra, Cura....all those guys. Most definitely.
Too bad the guy is so trollish looking.
I've decided that I don't like Brahms.
